The national Park "Altyn-Emel" was created to preserve the unique ecosystems of the ili intermountain basin and their biodiversity, protection of geomorphological and paleontological objects, historical and cultural monuments in combination with the development of ecological tourism. The main objectives of the national Park are:

- preservation of natural complexes, biodiversity, unique and reference natural sites, objects of natural reserve Fund, natural and historical and cultural heritage;

- development of scientific methods of biodiversity conservation, monitoring of environmental systems and individual natural objects under the program of nature Chronicle;

- ecological education and development of ecological tourism;

- ensuring the conduct of limited economic activities that do not cause damage to protected natural complexes.
